A glass negative from the Bain News Service, this portrait is identified in its caption as Gen. Pedro Nel Ospina, president of Colombia. Ospina, a military officer, held the presidency from 1922 to 1926, a period when Colombia was working to repair its relations with the United States after the 1903 separation of Panama. The Bain News Service, a New York agency that supplied pictures to newspapers in the early twentieth century, distributed images like this widely. The record gives no date, and the identification comes from caption cards that have not been independently verified.
