The subject here is a parade of automobiles in front of the Hotel Ormond at Ormond Beach, Florida, around 1906. Henry Flagler's resort hotel, built in the late 1880s along his Florida East Coast Railway, was a fashionable winter destination, and the firm, flat sand of the nearby beach drew motorists who came to race and to show off their cars. Parades like this one let wealthy guests and visiting drivers display the newest machines, and the photograph offers a record of early car culture at a resort that was then linked to the age of the automobile.
