This glass negative is titled "Ambrose Kennedy, R.I.," though the record notes that the name and the "R.I." abbreviation come from unverified data written on the negative or its sleeve. It dates from about 1921 to 1922, placing it within the output of the National Photo Company, the Washington, D.C., studio that produced a large body of news, portrait, and street views in the early twentieth century. The plate was given to the Library of Congress by Herbert A. French in 1947. Visible streaks and blemishes come from the natural breakdown of the original emulsion coatings, which is common in glass negatives of this age.
