A glass negative dated March 7, 1921, names Miss Eva Uhl and Cornelle Mattene, though those names come from unverified notes the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve. The company was a Washington, D.C., commercial studio that recorded local people and events in the 1910s and 1920s. Herbert A. French gave the plate to the Library of Congress in 1947. The streaks and blemishes across the image come from natural breakdown of the original coatings, a common sign of glass plates from this period.
