Winifred Huck, born Winifred Mason, sat for this portrait in Washington, D.C., on February 16, 1923. Her maiden name matches the Freemasons theme of this board only by coincidence, since the record makes no connection to the fraternity. The National Photo Company, which photographed the capital's residents, officials and visitors for decades, made the picture. It was logged in an album of the company's work from January 1923 to January 1924, under the photographer Herbert E. French, and it offers a useful glimpse of Washington portraiture in the early 1920s.
