Drawn from a high oblique viewpoint, this tinted lithograph shows Los Angeles at the height of the late-1880s land boom, when new railroads and a rush of settlers turned a small town of adobes and orchards into a fast-growing city. S.F. Cook drew the sheet, and Britton & Rey, a San Francisco lithography firm, printed it in 1888, with copyright held by A.J. Hatch & Co. Bird's-eye views like this were popular in the era, and they remain useful for studying the street layout and the open land on the city's edges just before the bust of 1889.
