Few pictures in the George Grantham Bain Collection place Theodore Roosevelt so directly among foreign guests as this one, which shows him standing with Prince Henry of Prussia during the prince's 1902 visit to the United States. Prince Henry, brother of Kaiser Wilhelm II and a career officer in the German navy, toured the country that year on a goodwill trip. The photograph was made by Jürgensen, identified on the back as official photographer to the Kaiser, and it shows how such diplomatic meetings were staged for the public.
