Promoting a free household training course in Ohio, this 1936 silkscreen poster offered a route into paid domestic work at a time when steady jobs were scarce. It was produced under the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration, which ran adult education classes in home economics and other practical skills during the Great Depression. Silkscreen suited federal poster work because it was inexpensive and produced bold, flat color in large runs. The 1940 date stamped on the back marks when the print was filed in the collection, not when it was designed.
