Its title, *Voilà les Américains!*, which translates as "Here are the Americans!", points to the moment it was made. Signed by Saunier and dated 1917, it appeared the same year the United States entered the war against Germany in April, as the first American troops were reaching France that summer. The record tags the print with American and German military personnel and with fear, suggesting that the arrival of fresh American forces was meant to unsettle the enemy. Posters like this were often designed to lift morale at home and to shape how the other side viewed the newcomers.
