This color lithograph calls on French-speaking Canadians to enlist and to re-form the Voltigeurs de Salaberry, a regiment named for Charles-Michel de Salaberry, the French-Canadian officer who led the defense at the Battle of Châteauguay in 1813 during the War of 1812. The poster's title is in French and invokes that earlier victory, so the appeal rests on regional pride and heritage as much as on duty. Its design was credited to A.H. Hider. Recruiting in Quebec lagged behind the rest of Canada during the First World War, and posters like this one tried to connect the war effort with the memory of a French-Canadian military tradition.
