Few wartime posters asked for money to build something at home in peacetime, but this 1919 American Red Cross call does exactly that, linking a membership fee to a health center in the reader's own town. Issued as number 8 in a series, it appeared as the country demobilized and the Red Cross was turning its wartime relief network toward public health work such as nursing, sanitation and disease prevention. Its appeal to local pride reflects the organization's postwar shift, when membership drives aimed to keep volunteers and donors engaged after the armistice.
