Two's company, three's a crowd" sets up a pair interrupted by an unwelcome third party, and this color halftone reproduces a drawing by Joseph Keppler as it appeared in *Puck* on February 28, 1914. Keppler founded the New York satirical weekly in 1877, and its lavish color cartoons were a fixture of American humor. The picture is linked to women, politics and suffrage, a subject hotly debated in 1914 as campaigns for the vote gained ground in several states. Worth noticing is how the halftone process translates Keppler's drawing into printed color, a method that let magazines like *Puck* carry full-color images to a wide readership.
