The Princess theater, on South Clark Street near East Jackson Boulevard in Chicago's Loop, is the subject of this 1929 ink drawing. It belongs to a decade when movie houses were multiplying across downtown Chicago, and the theater district was competing to offer grander interiors and the newest sound-film equipment. Architectural drawings like this one set out the building as it was designed, with the layout and construction details that builders and owners depended on. Its careful linework also shows how a downtown movie house was conceived before it was built.
