The Administration and Electricity buildings were two of the more striking structures at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, the fair that filled Jackson Park with white neoclassical palaces. The Electricity Building stood out for its role in showcasing the new power of electric light, which drew huge crowds to the fairgrounds after dark. Official photographs like this one, collected by the Library of Congress, document how the fair's planners used classical architecture to present American progress. The caption card gives no date for this particular print, but it was likely made during or shortly after the exposition.
