Printed in Baltimore in 1840, this sheet-music cover carries the title *General Harrison's Log Cabin March & Quick Step*, which turns a campaign emblem into a dance tune. Samuel Carusi issued the piece, and Ed Weber & Co. made the lithograph, so the cover is as much graphic design as a score. During the 1840 presidential race, Whig supporters presented William Henry Harrison as a plain frontiersman in a log cabin, an image that played against his Virginia planter upbringing and made the cabin one of the campaign's most recognizable symbols. Songs and covers like this carried that imagery into homes well beyond the election itself.
