Lillian Leitzel, the Ringling Brothers circus star famed for her spinning aerial ring act, is paired here with Dolly Jahn in a 1926 studio view made on May 10. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., studio that produced many publicity portraits of performers and public figures in the 1910s and 1920s, made the glass negative, so the image likely served promotional purposes. Notice the streaks and blemishes across the glass, which come from the natural breakdown of its original coating rather than from the scene itself.
