Women workers packing sliced bacon into glass jars at the Armour plant near the Union Stock Yards is an unusual subject for a stereograph. The Union Stock Yards, on Chicago's South Side, were the center of the city's meatpacking industry in the early 1900s, and Armour and Company was one of the largest firms there. Stereographs like this one, made to be viewed through a hand stereoscope, were a popular way for Americans of the period to see distant workplaces and industries. The card also carries a U.S. Copyright Office notation, which shows it was registered for publication.
