The only identifying detail here is the surname Briand, taken from caption cards the Bain News Service never fully verified. It most likely refers to Aristide Briand, the French politician who served several terms as premier and held the foreign ministry during the 1920s. He was a central figure in postwar diplomacy and shared the 1926 Nobel Peace Prize with Gustav Stresemann for work toward easing tensions between France and Germany. Bain's glass negatives from this era show how such public figures were presented to American newspaper readers.
