Opening with the traditional salutation "To all free and accepted masons on the face of the globe greetings," this printed certificate records a man's advancement to master mason, the third degree in Freemasonry. It was deposited for copyright on Nov. 19, 1863, and a shelflist card associates it with Henry C. Eno, though that link is unverified. Lodges issued such certificates to confirm membership and degrees, and many were decorated with Masonic emblems such as the square and compasses.
