Mrs. John Claybrook of Texas and M.C. George of Oregon were photographed together at the Capitol in Washington on January 24, 1925. The "M.C." in the title most likely means Member of Congress, which would place George among the lawmakers whose visits to the building were a routine subject for Washington photographers that decade. The image comes from the National Photo Company, a Washington studio that made many posed pictures of officials and visitors in the 1920s and often sold copies to the people pictured. The streaks and blemishes on the glass are natural deterioration of the original coatings, and they are part of how this negative has aged.
