Clarence Don Clark, pictured here in a portrait from about 1904, was a Republican who represented Wyoming in the U.S. Senate during the years when the West was gaining its place in national politics. This image is a halftone, a photomechanical process that let photographs be printed cheaply in newspapers and magazines, so portraits of officials like Clark could reach readers far from Washington. The copyright notice in the name of the Budget Co. shows that it was issued as published material for wide circulation, not as a private studio photograph.
