A deluxe cabin at the Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim anchors this stereograph, a view of a stay that was new to most Americans in the late 1920s. The lodge opened in 1928, operated by the Utah Parks Company, a Union Pacific subsidiary, and its guest cabins were built in a rustic style meant to blend into the surrounding pines. Keystone View Company, a Pennsylvania firm, sold cards like this one for home stereoscope viewers, so the image was designed to give armchair travelers a sense of depth and place. The c1929 date comes from an unverified caption card and should be treated as approximate.
