Boston hosted this archery tournament, preserved on a glass negative with no recorded date, and its title rests on caption cards from the Bain News Service that have not been verified. The negative belongs to the George Grantham Bain Collection, the work of a New York agency that sold news photographs to newspapers in the early twentieth century. Archery was a popular pastime for clubs and public competitions in that era, and the agency's pictures often documented such events for readers who wanted images of current life. Glass negatives of this size were the standard tool of press photographers before roll film took over, which makes the plate itself worth close attention.
