Printed in Newcastle upon Tyne for the publisher T. Robson around 1780, this combined engraving and etching portrays George Washington at a time when British printers far from London were eager to sell images of the American commander. The record describes it as another impression, which suggests the plate was pulled more than once and found enough buyers to justify a second run. Prints like this one were often copied from London originals and reached provincial readers, showing how closely the British public followed the war in America.
