This poster announces a 1940 Sioux City, Iowa, production of *Punch & Judy*, a puppet comedy whose anarchic hero, Mr. Punch, descends from the Italian Pulcinella of commedia dell'arte. Federal Art Project silkscreen units made posters like this one to promote community theater and public entertainment during the Depression, and the flat, bold color of the medium is evident here. A date stamped on the back, February 5, 1940, pins the sheet to a specific moment in the local calendar.
