Rows of horse-drawn hearses and a large crowd gather at a cemetery in what the record calls North Collingwood, Ohio, a neighborhood on Cleveland's east side. The 1908 date and the mass burial suggest a link to the Collinwood School fire that March, which killed more than 170 children and two teachers and led to funerals across the community in the days that followed. Horses still set the pace of funeral processions in this era, and photographs like this one show how many people turned out to mourn together.
