Ulysses S. Grant sits in this c1880 head-and-shoulders portrait turned to the left, a pose that shows the side of his face and his full, close-cropped beard. The record ties the image to a numbered studio photograph, and it carries a U.S. Copyright Office deposit mark, which suggests it was registered for wide distribution as a printed image.
