A group of Native American visitors posed at the White House, the kind of visit that brought delegations from many nations to the capital during the early twentieth century. The record dates the picture only to between 1909 and 1932, but its subject tags point to the 1920s and to the federal relationship with tribes, which was often negotiated in Washington. The print comes from the National Photo Company Collection, whose Washington photographers recorded officials, tourists and visitors. Look closely at the clothing, since the group's dress reflects both personal and ceremonial choices made for the occasion.
