The caption on this glass negative reads "Sir H. Greenwood," most likely a reference to Sir Hamar Greenwood, the Canadian-born British Liberal politician who later served as Chief Secretary for Ireland during the Irish War of Independence. The record gives no date and the identification is unverified, resting on the caption cards that the Bain News Service attached to its negatives. Bain's agency supplied news pictures of politicians, performers and public events to newspapers, and this plate reflects the portrait work that filled its files in the early twentieth century.
