The record names Gen. Sir J.S.S. Baden-Powell, but the title comes from unverified data supplied by the Bain News Service, so the identification should be read with caution. The negative is a glass plate from George Grantham Bain's New York news operation, which supplied photographs of public figures, events and everyday subjects to newspapers in the early twentieth century. The record gives no date, though the Bain plates generally fall within those first decades. The glass format is worth noticing, since it was the working medium of press photographers before flexible film became standard.
