This photograph shows three British naval minesweepers, H.M.S. Blackpool, H.M.S. Bridlington, and H.M.S. Bude, lined up from left to right. Many Royal Navy minesweepers of the Second World War were named after British seaside towns, and they worked in coastal waters to clear the mines that threatened shipping in the Atlantic and the North Sea. The record dates the print only to between 1939 and 1945, and its caption data is unverified. It carries a number from the Office for Emergency Management, the U.S. wartime agency that produced and circulated photographs to publicize the war effort.
