Printed in St. Louis around 1859, this sheet music cover carries the title "All Hail Good Templars," a reference to the Good Templars, a temperance fraternal order that spread through the United States in the 1850s. The cover was copyrighted by the music firm Balmer & Weber and drawn on stone by lithographer John McKiltrick, whose shop stood on North Main Street. Its color lithography reflects how publishers used eye-catching covers to sell songs to lodge members and the wider public, and the piece offers a glimpse of the fraternal culture of the period.
