Among the many Federal theater Project posters of the late 1930s, this 1938 silkscreen print stands out for promoting *The Mad Hopes*, a comedy that its billing says features a Surrealist setting for the first time. The poster names Romney Brent (1902-1976) as the work's author, and its subject listing places the production in Connecticut. The Federal theater Project, part of the Works Progress Administration, employed theater workers during the Depression, and its poster division used stenciled silkscreen to produce bold, flat-colored advertising for its shows across the country.
