This print reproduces a painting of Caroline of Brunswick by Samuel Lane, whose original is held by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. Caroline married George, Prince of Wales, in 1795, and the marriage broke down within a year, leaving her a figure of public controversy. She became queen consort when George acceded in 1820, but he sought to divorce her, and she was barred from his coronation the following year. The record does not date the print, so it is best read as a later reproduction of the portrait.
