Three men posed side by side in this photograph were chosen to judge the 1945 Pennell Prize exhibition, a competition for printmakers named for the illustrator and etcher Joseph Pennell. The caption card names them left to right as Armin Landeck, Asa Chefetz and Robert Riggs, and Landeck and Riggs were both working artists in American printmaking and painting circles of the period. The card gives no date, and its information is recorded as unverified, so the year 1945 comes only from the title. Details of the occasion are worth checking against exhibition records before relying on them.
