The picture shows the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the eastern edge of Central Park, a building that by about 1905 had already grown well beyond its first modest structure. The Beaux-Arts facade on Fifth Avenue, designed by Richard Morris Hunt, was finished in the early 1900s and gave the museum the monumental presence it still has. The caption card files the view under geography, museums, railroad stations and hotels, which suggests it was made as a general-interest view of New York for visitors and collectors of city scenes.
