Its title, "There are so many other places they can go!", and its subject headings point to Calvin Coolidge, the 1928 presidential race, and a scene of sleeping children. Coolidge had taken office in 1923 after Warren G. Harding's death, and in August 1927 he announced he would not seek another term, opening the field that Herbert Hoover went on to win. The record suggests the drawing ran in a Washington daily, probably the Evening Star, where editorial cartoons used simple visual jokes to comment on politicians and campaign season. The record does not name the artist, so the exact joke is best read from the caption and the figures themselves.
