A glass negative titled as Theodore Roosevelt at the White House on April 17 carries a title the record calls unverified, and it is dated only to between 1909 and 1920. Roosevelt left office in 1909, so any visit recorded in that span would have been made as a former president. The plate belongs to the National Photo Company collection, a Washington studio that documented public figures and capital scenes in the early 1900s, and it came to the Library of Congress as a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947. Streaks and blemishes across the glass reflect natural deterioration of its original coatings.
