Its Portuguese text beneath a Spanish headline, "Luchamos por la libertad de todos" ("We fight for the freedom of all"), suggests it was meant for Brazilian viewers. The U.S. Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, the wartime agency led by Nelson Rockefeller, issued posters like this to build support for the Allies across Latin America. Edward McKnight Kauffer, the American-born designer credited here, worked in London and New York and was known for bold, simplified graphics. The record dates the piece only to the 1940s.
