Unlike many pictures on this board, this lithograph is titled for the storm itself, a dust storm rendered as the central event. The record gives no date, but the caption tracings connect it to the Dust Bowl, the drought and wind erosion that swept the southern Great Plains in the 1930s. Those storms buried fields and farmhouses and drove many families to leave, and the tracings' references to emigration and wagons point to that exodus. Robert Riggs signed the print in pencil, so it is worth looking for how the artist shows the wind and the people caught in it.
