A children's festival on Saturday, May 25, 1940, at Community Square in the Queensbridge Housing Project gives this poster its particular setting. Queensbridge, in Long Island City, Queens, was among the first large public housing developments in the United States, and its shared spaces were meant to bring families together in a planned neighborhood. The Federal Art Project, part of the Work Projects Administration, sponsored the poster, and its silkscreen printing shows how the program produced inexpensive, bold announcements for community events during the Depression.
