The caption for this glass negative names the River Jordan, the waterway that runs from the slopes of Mount Hermon south through the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea and forms part of the boundary between Jordan and Israel today. The title comes from caption information written by the Bain News Service, which is not independently verified, and the record gives no date. The Bain News Service was a New York photo agency that supplied newspapers and magazines with pictures of news, people and places in the early twentieth century. Its negatives are valued as a broad record of that period, and this one is worth viewing with the caveat that its subject rests on the agency's own labeling.
