The only identifying detail here is the caption "Cantor," which the Bain News Service recorded on the negative or its accompanying card, and the Library of Congress notes that the title is unverified. Bain News Service was a New York picture agency founded by George Grantham Bain around 1899 that supplied photographs of news events, public figures and daily life to newspapers. Its glass negatives, most 5 by 7 inches or smaller, form a large part of the early twentieth-century visual record. With no date recorded, the subject and the agency's working period are the best guides to placing this image.
