Its title, "Remember Belgium: Enlist to-day," points straight to the German invasion of Belgium in August 1914, which violated Belgian neutrality and brought Britain into the war. The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee, a London body formed to boost voluntary enlistment, used the destruction and civilian suffering reported from Belgium in the British press to appeal to men's sense of duty. This copy was lithographed in color by Henry Jenkinson Ltd. of Kirkstall, Leeds, and is numbered 19 in the series. Its appeal to memory, rather than to patriotism alone, is typical of the 1915 recruiting drive.
