Detroit's Golden Jubilee in 1951 marked half a century of automobile making in the city, and this photograph shows a Cadillac runabout from either 1902 or 1903 as it was set to appear in the Antique Automotive Exposition held during the celebration from May 29 to June 9. Cadillac was a young company then, formed in Detroit in 1902, and its early single-cylinder runabouts were among the first cars it sold. The exposition's display of such vehicles let visitors see how far automobile design had come in a few decades. The record's date of 1951 is a best estimate, and the exact model year of the car is uncertain.
