A 1925 Detroit Electric, one of the battery-powered cars built in Detroit, is the subject here, and the print carries a notice from the Grogan Photo Company of Danville, Illinois. Detroit Electric sold its quiet, easy-to-start cars for roughly three decades, and in the 1920s it aimed much of its marketing at women and city drivers, while most gasoline cars still required hand cranking. The record dates the print to about 1944, though that date and the caption details are unverified, so the photograph is best read as a glimpse of the car's styling and of an era when electric vehicles were still a real choice.
