The subject is a stone bridge over the Rio Cobre near Spanish Town, a river that runs through the plain south of the old Jamaican capital. Spanish Town served as the seat of government on the island for much of the colonial period, so a crossing there carried traffic between the town and the surrounding plantation country. The record does not give a date for the print, and its attribution to Daniel Lerpiniere comes from a shelflist card that has not been fully verified. The view is worth a look for its record of the river crossing and the landscape around it.
