Columbia University's varsity lacrosse squad, photographed in 1908, is preserved here as a glass negative, a fragile format that shows the fine detail of the players and their equipment. The image comes from the George Grantham Bain Collection, made by a New York news photo service that supplied pictures to newspapers and magazines in the early twentieth century.
