Here the subject is a holiday special issue rather than a place or event: a poster promoting the Thanksgiving number of *The Chap-Book*, a small literary periodical of the mid-1890s. Will H. Bradley, a Chicago-trained designer and one of the leading figures in America's 1890s poster revival, produced much of the magazine's cover and advertising art, drawing on the flat shapes, bold outlines and decorative lettering of European Art Nouveau. Posters like this one helped establish the look of the period's book and magazine design, and they show how commercial artists were beginning to treat printed ephemera as serious art.
