Titled simply "Politics," this drypoint on off-white laid paper is dated somewhere between 1903 and 1926 and is catalogued under the subject of discussion. The artist would have cut the image directly into a metal plate with a steel needle, and the raised burr left by that process holds ink and gives drypoint lines their soft, velvety edge. Printmakers of these decades often turned to small, intimate subjects rather than grand public events, and this sheet reflects that interest in everyday social life. The one-word title invites viewers to consider the political mood of the era in which it was made.
